What years of protective operations taught us
Security teams should not have to brief the driver
On one assignment with a principal who already traveled with a protection detail, the team was visibly relieved to learn that the driver came from the protection industry. Staging, communication, and vehicle positioning did not need to be explained, and the driver strengthened the operation rather than becoming another variable to manage.
Navigation is not the same as local knowledge
A driver brought in from outside a market went to the wrong location and lost valuable time, which is unacceptable when transporting someone whose safety matters. P1 relies on drivers who live in their market and know its FBO gates, hotel entrances, residences, seasonal traffic, and alternate routes.
